The standard I aim for
The site is built with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA in mind. That is the target I design and write towards. It is not a formal, independently audited conformance claim, and I will not pretend otherwise.
What is in place
The site uses clean, structured headings so a screen reader can move through a page in order. Links and buttons can be reached and used with a keyboard. Text reflows and stays readable on a phone as well as a desktop, and you can zoom in without the layout breaking. Colours are chosen for readable contrast, images that carry meaning have text descriptions, and the site does not rely on colour alone to make a point.
Where I know there is room to improve
Some older articles include editorial cartoons and charts whose text descriptions are shorter than I would like. A few pages link out to other publishers, whose own accessibility I do not control. I am working through these over time.
