Leadership & management performance · Updated October 2026

Performance from the people who run your organisation.

Ask the owner of a small firm where last week went and the answer is often the same. A figure had to be chased because it was not in the report. A job got checked twice. Someone spent two days finding paperwork for a customer audit. That is time the people running the business did not spend running it. Our work is about getting that time back and making the management team better at its job. We do it through compliance management and quality management, because those are the systems that decide whether the figures are right and whether the work is done properly first time. We start with a Performance, Compliance and Quality Diagnostic, so there is a baseline before we change anything.

A management team meeting round a table to go through the operation

How we approach it

Performance enhancement within organisations: that is what the practice is for.

01

The whole system

We look at the organisation as one system. A delay in finance often starts in sales, so we follow a problem back to where it begins before we touch anything.

02

Data that moves

The board, the managers and the people doing the work should see the same figures, with the same meaning, and departments should see each other's numbers when work passes between them.

03

Guardrails where needed

A control earns its place when it protects performance or keeps you inside the law. Where it only adds paperwork, it goes.

04

Listen first

The diagnostic is mostly questions. We talk to as many of your people as we can, at every level, and read the records they keep.

05

Change that fits

What we suggest has to fit your culture. Where AI can take routine work off your people safely, we build it in.

06

Help to put it in

We stay to help you make the change, not just hand over a report.

What we measure

The diagnostic looks at six things, and we agree the numbers together.

01

Decisions

How decisions get made, how long they take, and how many of them still wait for the owner.

02

Management time

We sit down with each manager and work out how many hours a week go on rework and chasing.

03

Margin

The money that goes on doing a job twice, through refunds, credit notes and overtime.

04

Cash

Mostly debtor days, which often go back to an invoice that left late or wrong.

05

Complaints and errors

Complaints, returns and audit findings, counted the same way every month.

06

Proof on request

How long it takes you to get a buyer, a bank or a regulator the proof they asked for.

Why compliance and quality come into it

Compliance

Fewer fire drills

When each rule has an owner and the evidence is kept as the work happens, managers stop dropping everything when an inspection or a tender questionnaire arrives.

Quality

Figures you can trust

A process that runs the same way every time gives managers figures they can trust, so they can manage the exceptions instead of checking everything.

Together

One monthly review

The two systems share the same records and the same review meeting. That meeting becomes the place where the management team looks at performance once a month, with the facts in front of it.

AI and the management team

Where AI fits

AI tools can take a lot of routine work off managers: drafting reports, pulling figures together, checking documents against a list. They can also create new risk when nobody owns the output, or when data ends up where it should not. We help management teams decide where AI earns its place and put the controls around it. It is also the subject Stefan is taking into his doctoral research at Signum Magnum College: how AI changes the work of leaders and managers, and what that means for quality and compliance. See how we use AI in operations.

How an engagement runs

Before any fee: a free 30-minute call. We talk by video call for 30 minutes about how the management team works today, and we tell you whether the diagnostic is worth doing. Book it here.

  1. Performance, Compliance and Quality DiagnosticTwo or three days. We look at how the management team works, which figures reach it and how far they can be trusted, and where gaps in compliance or quality are costing time or money. We score those gaps against ISO 37301, ISO 31000 and ISO 9001 where they apply, and we set a baseline on four to six performance measures that matter to you. Fixed fee of €2,250 (£1,900 or $2,550), excluding VAT.
  2. Findings and a 90-day planYou get a short report with the findings in order, worst first, and a plan for the next 90 days with a name beside each action. We go through both with you on a call, and they are yours whether or not we carry on.
  3. Build project or Fractional COOIf the diagnostic shows that a whole system is missing, a build project with a fixed scope puts it in. Firms with nobody running operations can take the Fractional COO role instead.
  4. Measure against the baselineEither way, the baseline from the diagnostic is what we measure progress against.

Common questions

What do you mean by leadership and management performance?

How well the people who run the organisation do their job: the decisions they make, how fast, on what information, and how much of their week goes on fixing things that should not have broken.

How is this different from management consulting?

Management consultants often bring a new structure or a new strategy. We work on the systems underneath the management team, so that the figures are reliable, the rules are met and the work is done right first time.

Do I need an ISO certificate for this to work?

No. A certificate is optional and many clients never apply for one. The standards are a useful checklist of what good looks like, whether or not an auditor ever visits.

What does the diagnostic cost?

The Performance, Compliance and Quality Diagnostic takes two or three days and costs a fixed €2,250 (£1,900 or $2,550), excluding VAT. If you sign a build project within 60 days of the findings call, we credit the fee in full.

Do you work with public bodies and NGOs?

Yes. The practice works with businesses, public bodies and NGOs in the EU, the UK and the UAE, and the diagnostic is the same for all three.
