Strategy and governance, evidenced through the businesses I have built.

Not a CV, but a record of consulting work delivered, for my own ventures and for external clients, read as case studies. It shows how I read a business, find the one or two things that are its real constraint, and fix them, across compliance, property, packaging and finance in the United Kingdom and Malta.

In one line

I help regulated businesses in the UK and Malta build compliance and workforce capability that stands up to a regulator, without slowing the business down.

What a board or client gets

Boards and owners appoint to fill a gap, not to reward a CV. These are the four assets I bring into the room.

01

Regulated-sector fluency

I live in compliance, governance and the EU regulatory pipeline: the AI Act, NIS2, DORA, CSRD and pay transparency. A board with regulatory exposure has a recurring blind spot, and it is one I can see clearly.

02

Cross-border UK and Malta reach

A Malta company eyeing the UK, or a UK business testing an EU foothold, is short of people who genuinely operate in both. I already do, with a licence and memberships on both sides.

03

Learning and workforce capability

Skills, training and competence are board-level agenda items now, not HR footnotes. I build this for a living, and my doctoral research is on how organisations actually adopt it.

04

Governance temperament

A doctorate in progress and a lecturing record mean I argue from evidence and frameworks, not opinion. That is challenge in the room, not interference.

How I work: one lens for any business

I read every business through the same nine functions, at three levels of responsibility. I built the lens for my own group, so that several companies could be compared on one page, and it is the same read I bring to a client.

SalesMarketingTechnologyExecutionProductsServicesPurchasingLogisticsPersonal development

The value of a shared lens is that nothing hides. When a function has no owner, the blank cell is the finding. When a decision has two accountable names, that is where things silently drop. One working rule travels with it: a plan or a decision that touches fewer than five of these functions is usually incomplete.

Weekly

Run the numbers

Each function is reviewed against its measures by the person who owns it.

Monthly

Walk the whole map

The one or two constraint functions are named and decisions taken with the accountable person in the room. This meeting is the keystone.

Quarterly

Reset direction

Standards are restated per function, and at group level every company is read through the same lens to decide where attention moves next.

The evidence: delivered work, read as case studies

Real engagements, grouped by the capability each one demonstrates. Client names are anonymised. Results are stated as results and projections are labelled as projections, because a portfolio is worth nothing the day one claim in it does not hold.

Operations turnaround

Fixing how a business runs

A distributor of specialised industrial components and a business services firm shared one symptom: slow processes and departments that did not talk to each other. I rebuilt each around a single end-to-end workflow, one source of truth, automated purchase orders, centralised tracking and delivery linked to invoicing.

Result: the distributor reported 80% fewer product returns within six months, and cash flow stabilised.

Strategy and funding

Building the case that attracts capital

A property developer needed a five-year cash flow model to raise bank and investor funding; an installations SME wanted to claim a government investment incentive. I built the models, tested the assumptions underneath them, and ran the incentive claim end to end.

Result: the tax-credit claim was secured, and the funding cases were built to survive a lender's due diligence.

Delivery to an external standard

Meeting a demanding client's bar

Through my packaging venture I delivered sourcing and supply for demanding clients, including a global semiconductor manufacturer that needed a moisture-controlled bag qualified for sensitive components, on a disciplined, documented control process.

Result: the qualification passed after a twelve-month testing cycle, delivered to specification.

Capital allocation

Sourcing assets against a return

For investors I sourced and refurbished UK buy-to-let property across Scotland and Wales, each deal opened with local rental-demand analysis and a costed, value-adding refurbishment held to budget.

Result: six completed deals delivered realised gross yields of 6.8% to 9.4%, let quickly with minimal voids.

Where I add most

I am open to advisory board and non-executive roles in the United Kingdom and Malta, in my specialism. A non-executive oversees and questions; it does not run, and I keep that line.

Regulatory foresight

Boards that keep getting surprised

Any board with EU or UK regulatory exposure that wants to see the next wave coming and know what it means for the operating model.

Cross-border expansion

UK and Malta in one head

A Malta company moving into the UK, or a UK business testing an EU foothold, that lacks someone who operates in both.

Workforce and capability

Skills as a strategic agenda

A board treating training and competence as strategy, and wanting evidence it stands up to a regulator.

Portfolio and group oversight

One governance lens

An owner or holding structure that needs its companies read through one lens and its attention allocated on merit.

For the record

Credentials and standing

Owner and operator of a compliance and learning business and a property practice; founder of an accreditation venture; lecturer in management subjects at university and professional level; and a doctoral candidate in business administration. I hold a master's from the College of Europe in Bruges, a B.Com from the University of Malta, and a licensed Maltese Property Broker role (PB-00309-25). I sit on the Malta Chamber of SMEs Skilling, Up-Skilling and Future of Work standing committee, and I am a member of the Federation of Small Businesses. My work is grounded in recognised standards, including ISO 37301, ISO 31000 and the OCEG GRC framework.

A note on scope: this is advisory work tailored to your organisation and its jurisdiction. It is not legal advice. Directors' duties under the UK Companies Act 2006 and the Malta Companies Act are real and personal, and I confirm specifics with a qualified lawyer before accepting any statutory seat.

How an engagement runs

A straight, predictable path from first call to work you can act on.

  1. First callWe talk through your organisation, the pressure you are under and roughly what you need. You get a straight answer on fit before anything else.
  2. Scope in writingA short written scope: what I will do, what you will get, how long it takes and how we will know it worked. No open-ended commitments.
  3. DiagnosisI read the business through the nine functions, name the one or two that are the real constraint, and check the finding with the people who run them.
  4. Build and embedWe build the framework, the register or the model, then I stay long enough to see it become what people actually do, not a document in a drawer.

Governance at three altitudes

The same nine functions, read at three levels of responsibility, so a business gets collaboration and role clarity at once.

Owner

Direction, standards and capital

Sets what good means, where the money goes, and holds the outcome. This is the altitude a board or an owner operates at, and the one I am there to sharpen.

Manager

Runs the function, owns the numbers

Coordinates the people and the tools, and reports the truth upward. Most things that silently drop, drop here, where two names think the other one owns it.

Employee

Owns the work and the signal

Owns the quality of the work and feeds real signal back up, so the map of the business stays honest rather than becoming a story told to the top.

How I think, stated plainly

Method, not dogma

Decision rights map onto RACI, with one accountable name per decision, set as low as it can safely go, and a single spend threshold that splits owner and manager authority.

The lens draws on established frameworks: the RACI responsibility matrix, intent-based leadership, management by objectives, and the where-to-play and how-to-win strategy cascade. The nine-function synthesis is my own.

Common questions

What kinds of engagement do you take?

Advisory board seats and non-executive roles, plus project-based advisory: a compliance or risk framework, a governance review, a regulatory readiness check, or a funding case that needs to hold up under scrutiny. I take the shape that fits the problem, not a fixed package.

Do you work with businesses that have no compliance function?

Yes. Most of the work is with owners, managers and department heads who carry compliance and risk without a large function behind them. The method is built to be run by the people already in the business.

How do you keep this separate from your own companies?

I screen every engagement for conflict before I accept it, and I keep my advisory work firewalled from my own ventures. If there is any overlap, I say so up front and we decide together how to handle it.

Which standards and regulations do you work to?

Compliance management aligned to ISO 37301, risk to ISO 31000, and anti-bribery referencing ISO 37001, with regulatory areas such as data protection, anti-money laundering, health and safety and the EU AI Act, always tied to the jurisdiction that governs you.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is practical advisory work tailored to your organisation and its jurisdiction. It does not replace your regulator's guidance or a qualified lawyer, and I confirm any statutory director's duty with a solicitor or advocate before acting on it.

How do we start?

Use the contact page to outline your organisation and what you need. You will get a straight answer on fit, scope and how the work would run, usually within a couple of working days.
